A case has been registered against local Shiv Sena MP Chandrakant Khaire for allegedly abusing and obstructing a public servant who was leading a demolition drive against unauthorised structures including temples.
A case under Section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from doing his duty), 143 (punishment for unlawful assembly), 294 (obscene acts), 114 (abettor present when offence is committed), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and other relevant sections of IPC has been registered against him, Inspector Rameshwar Thorat of MIDC Waluj Police Station said.
Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Shirsat and around 30 unidentified persons have also been booked in connection with the incident, he said.
Recently, Khaire had landed in controversy after he was caught on camera hurling abuse at a tehsildar after a demolition drive in an industrial area near here.
A complaint was registered by the tehsildar, police said.
The incident had taken place Thursday last and the MP was apparently peeved over the pulling down of temples during the demolition drive.
Based on the High Court orders, District Collector Nidhi Pandey had ordered to raze to ground six religious places in Waluj.
Accordingly, tehsildar Ramesh Munlod led the drive and removed the encroachments and the illegally-built religious places.
After all the encroachments were removed, Khaire, who was in the nearby area reached the spot in the evening and started abusing Munlod publicly.
Khaire asked Munlod, who was seated in a car, what his name was and then hurled abuse at him. The Sena MP also called Munlod "Aurangzeb ki aulad".
After the incident, the Sena MP had alleged that the BJP government was hurting the sentiments of Hindus.
