The funeral pyre was lit by Yadav's second son Sachin Yadav near his native village Borawan on the banks of Narmada river in the presence of a large number of his admirers, the sources said.
Yadav died yesterday at a hospital in Delhi following prolonged illness. His body was brought last evening by plane to Indore from where it was taken to Borawan.
Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh and Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia reached Borawan this morning and after paying condolences at Yadav's house returned to Indore.
