Sensex pares gains; Nifty slips below 8K in morning trade

After positive opening, the benchmark Sensex fell by 49 points and CNX Nifty slipped below 8K-level, driven by F&O expiry day, amid bouts of selling in key Auto, Oil & Gas, Banking, Power and Metal sectors.
Shares of mid-cap and small-cap were trading down, while key FMCG, HealthCare, IT and Teck segments witnessed some buying.
The 30-share index Sensex resumed higher at 26,808.66 and moved up to 26,814.20 and declined to 26,668.10, it was quoting at 26,696.03 at 1005 hours, down by 48.66 points or 0.18 per cent from its last close.
The NSE 50-share Nifty also traded lower by 14.90 points or 0.19 per cent to 7,987.50 at 1005 hours.
Meanwhile, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a Rs 793.65 crore yesterday as per the provisional data issued by stock exchanges.
Major losers were Hindalco (3.26 pct), ONGC (2.55 pct), AxisBank (2.24 pct), Reliance (2.00 pct) and SBIN (1.95 pct).
Notable gainers are GAIL (1.89 pct), TCS (1.84 pct), CIPLA (1.54 pct), HDFC Bank (1.36 pct) and Dr Reddy (1.12pct).
Asian stocks were trading mixed as key benchmark indices in China, Indonesia, and Japan rose by 0.53 pct to 1.22 pct, while key benchmark indices in Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan and Singapore fell 0.11 pct to 0.61 pct.
