A 70-year-old woman was axed to death allegedly by her younger son after an argument between them in Jaipla village in Baran district, the police said today.
Suraj Bai worked as a daily wage labourer while her two sons - Raju (26) and Kajod (40) - were jobless and habitual drinkers who would often quarrel with her for money, SHO of Bapcha police station, Mahendra Singh Devra said.
The woman was attacked by her younger son Raju (26) with an axe late last night in their house following an argument, the officer said.
She died on the spot, he said, adding following which the accused escaped from the spot.
The woman's elder son, Kajod (40), who was asleep in the porch during the incident, found his mother's body lying in a pool of blood this morning, Devra said.
Instead of informing police, he went to his maternal uncle Jamna Lal's house at Uncha village in Bhelwara district. He told his uncle that his mother was very ill and asked him to come to their house.
On reaching the woman's house, Lal found his sister lying dead in a pool of dead who then informed police, the SHO said.
On Lal's complaint an FIR was registered against the two brothers on the charge of murder, he said, adding the two accused were detained.
The body was today handed over to the family members after the postmortem, he said.
