Seven school boys set to scale Mount Everest

The "youngest ever" expedition, comprising seven youths aged between 16 to 17 years, today set out to script a history by scaling the Mount Everest on the 60th anniversary of the first ascent of the highest peak.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh flagged off the group of renowned Lawrence School in Sanawar.
The expedition will return here on May 28 if the weather conditions are not hostile and mission is accomplished, said principal of the school, Praveen Vashisht.
Twelve boys underwent training and seven of them were finally selected to be part of this expedition.
The team has undergone a seven month extensive training programme from September 2012 to March 2013, in all aspects of stamina build-up, physical fitness, team integration and mental conditioning.

The team is trained in a scientific manner, under the guidance of professional trainers to help build themselves, specially their diet and medical condition, which was carefully monitored.

They effectively learnt survival, first aid and mountain rescue techniques.
They climbed two major peaks in the Kanchenjunga area-- the B C Roy peak and Frey peak and their training was done at heights as high as 19000 feet.
The expedition would fly to Katmandu on April 6 and will start the trekking to Everest base camp from April 11.
