Several delegations meet J-K CM, put forth demands

Several delegations today met Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti here, with one seeking hill development council status for the Pir Panchal area to pace up its development.
The delegation from Pir Panchal area also sought rest rooms along the Jammu-Poonch National Highway and speeding up of work of Jammu University's Poonch campus, an official spokesman said.
They also demanded the setting up of more educational institutes in the region and introduction of Arabic and Persian in the Jammu University in view of the global demand for these languages, he said.
Several delegations from Jammu city demanded improvement in basic civic amenities such as link roads, drains, drinking water and electricity, the spokesman said.
He said that they specifically sought improvement of civic facilities in the Bathindi-Sunjwan area in view of the huge rush of people during winters.
A delegation of political migrants demanded proper accommodation facilities and appropriate share in the prime minister's package for employment, the spokesman said.
He said people from Kathua demanded authorities be directed to removing garbage and industrial waste from the local railway station.
They also demanded face-lifting and beautification of the station, besides construction of the Kathua-Kharote road to improve connectivity in the area, the spokesman said.
He said a delegation from Reasi demanded strengthening of facilities at the local district hospital and establishment of a maternity unit there.
They also sought development of tourism in the area in view of the huge rush of pilgrims.
Members of a delegation from the All Graduate Engineers Association sought promotions, timely regularisations and adoption of a mechanism of running grades, the spokesman said.
The Laboratory Assistants of Education Department sought release of their pending salaries and retired employees of the J&K Minerals Ltd demanded release of pending COLA instalments and other pension-related benefits, he said.
The chief minister assured the delegations that their issues would be got addressed in a time-bound manner.
