"More than 10 people were injured when a fight that broke out among workers at a Foxconn plant in north China's Shanxi Province last night," state-run Xinhua news agency reported today.

"The fight started at 11 pm last night in the plant's dormitory in the provincial capital of Taiyuan, drawing a large crowd of spectators and triggering chaos," according to a spokesman from the city's public security bureau.

"Around 5,000 policemen were sent to the scene, bringing it under control this morning," he said.

It was not yet clear how many workers were involved in the fight and its cause is under investigation.

The Taiwan firm Foxconn, the world's largest maker of computer components for top brands like iPad Samsung, Sony, Dell and others faced criticism on harsh working conditions two years ago after a string of suicides committed by several employees.

The company currently employs about one million employees in its different factories in China.
