A sex racket, allegedly being run with the help of social media, has been unearthed and about 20 people have been detained, police said today.
According to police, it had received a complaint in Janipur area that some websites and social networking sites had allegedly posted advertisements of escort services and calls girls in Jammu.
"The services were being provided by some locals who had published their phone numbers on these websites. Wanting to avail of the services, people would give a call on these numbers," Senior Superintendent of Police Jammu Sunil Gupta told reporters here.
He said that a case was registered and people were being tracked from the phone numbers provided on the websites and other social networking platforms.
"Police swung into action and arrested three main accused from different locations. On their disclosure, police came to know about this major flesh trade, going on in Jammu and raised different locations, and arrested some men and women in this connections," the SSP said.
"So far we have detained over 20 people and we expect more arrests in the coming days," SSP Jammu Gupta told reporters.
Some girls, allegedly involved in the flesh trade, were also apprehended but as the investigation was still in its initial stage, the exact number of the people involved in the trade could not be divulged.
"The network of this racket may be across many districts and adjoining states also and the involvement of certain high profile people in the case cannot be ruled out either. The investigations is going on and more arrests would be made in the coming days," he said.
