Hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his "surgical strike" against black money and corruption, BJP chief Amit Shah tonight termed the measures announced by him "tough but timely and path-breaking".
He asserted that Modi has again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to fulfilling the promises he made to people.
The decisions announced by Modi are exactly what is needed to uproot corruption, black money, hawala and fake currency rackets and will go a long way in bringing economic prosperity to the lives of the poor, middle class and neo-middle class, he said.
"We feel proud of PM Narendra Modi ji's surgical strike against black money and corruption. His decision to discontinue Rs 500 and Rs 1000 rupee note will immensely help in eliminating corruption. On behalf of all BJP karyakartas, I compliment the Central government and the PM for taking tough but timely and path-breaking measures.
"We can no longer let corruption and black money slow down our development journey. We must create a prosperous India for future generations. The elimination of black money will help boosting the development with justice," Shah said in a statement as well as a series of tweets.
The measures have thwarted evil designs of anti-India elements who support terror on the Indian soil and fake currency rackets and narcotics trade, he said.
"PM Narendra Modi has yet again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to fulfilling the promises he made to people of India," he said.
By setting up an SIT to look into black money in his first Cabinet meeting after taking over as the Prime Minister in May 2014 Modi had made his intentions clear and his decision to sign agreements with countries over the issue have caused good results, he said.
Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said it is a very courageous and bold decision which should be appreciated by all. "We should join hands to check the menace of black money.
