Deputy Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Nazir Ahmad Gurezi today directed the state government to remove an IAS officer as his name has figured in an alleged suicide bid by a lady IAS officer two weeks back.
The issue was raised by PDP MLA Javaid Mustafa Mir, who said acts of few bad officers were unnecessarily bringing disrepute to the entire bureaucracy.
"In one case, justice has been done," Mir said and asked, "What about the other who heads the department under which we all study."
He also asked the government to inform the Assembly whether or not the police has registered an FIR in this case.
At this point, Gurezi directed the government to shift immediately the officer whose name has figured.
"The department he heads has 50 per cent of women employees. Transfer the officer and allot him an insensitive (sic) post," the Deputy Speaker said.
Without naming anyone, a report in a local newspaper last week claimed that an IAS officer made an abortive suicide bid minutes after another IAS officer had visited her official residence on June 17.
The IAS officer, who allegedly tried to commit suicide, was among six officers transferred by state cabinet yesterday.
