An official says a ship carrying arms and ammunition from Ukraine to Libya has been stopped passing through Greek waters and its crew arrested.
The official from the Greek Merchant Marine Ministry told The Associated Press that happened yesterday after the Sierra Leone-flagged ship, Nour M, was inspected and found to lack the proper documentation for its cargo.
It was escorted by coast guard vessels to the eastern Aegean Sea island of Rhodes and the crew of three Turkish nationals and three Indian nationals was arrested. The official spoke on condition of anonymity pending an official announcement expected Monday.
He said the documents did not fully account for the cargo or include required UN authorisation. He gave no details about the arms and ammunition that were found.
