A Sub-Inspector was suspended today on the charge of abusing and threatening the public on Independence day under the influence of liquor.
The SI Ganesan, attached to the Armed Reserve here, reportedly forced staff of a state-run TASMAC liquor outlet here to open it, gulped down liquor and broke some bottles.
The inebriated police official went on a verbal abuse spree and also forcibly took away some goods from petty shops, infuriating traders and public, who lodged a complaint against him.
After a preliminary inquiry, Nilgiris District Superintendent of Police Senthil Kumar today ordered suspension of Ganesan, pending departmental inquiry, police said.
