Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Manjeet Singh G K, who was in Jammu to express solidarity with the family of a sikh youth killed in police firing during a protest on June 4, alleged that the state government was pushing the community to the wall.
"Sikhs across the country are nationalist people who have their full confidence in the Constitution of the country and are ready to give their lives for the sovereignty and integrity of the country. But the government is pushing the community to the wall," he told reporters here.
"This is a blackmailing tactic being used by the Jammu and Kashmir police. They have registered false cases against sikh youth just to harass them and blackmail the youth to take back the cases registered against the police," Manjeet Singh alleged.
He questioned the "credibility" of the probe being conducted by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, into the incident and demanded a probe by a sitting High Court judge.
He said the DSGMC will give Rs 5 lakh to family members of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to those injured in police firing.
He appealed the central and the state governments to take measures so as to restore the confidence of the community.
"We have been facing atrocities for past 31 years and now this government-sponsored atrocities will not be tolerated," he said.
