Southern India Mill's Association (SIMA) today thanked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for ordering easing of 'Restrictions and Controls' entailing substantial power cuts for High Tension electricity consumers from June 5.
In a statement, SIMA chairman, T Rajkumar said that the industry as a whole was much grateful to Chief Minister for putting an end to the power shortage and giving much needed relief by the industrial entrepreneurs in the state, particularly the textile industry to sustain the competitiveness.
SIMA also thanked Jayalalaithaa for taking several steps to evacuate the wind power to the maximum extent possible during the earlier seasons and sustain the viability of textile mills in Tamil Nadu.
Stating that Tamil Nadu has the highest capacity of wind mills in the country to the extent of 7,304 MW and textile industry accounts for more than 50 per cent of these wind mills which are used for captive consumption, he said that the industry could sustain its viability and compete with States like Gujarat and Maharashtra, which have announced several incentives for textile industry mainly due to wind power, he said.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Electricity Consumers' Association (TECA) welcomed the removal of the Restriction and Control Measures on the power supply by the government of Tamil Nadu and TANGEDCO and thanked chief minister for it.
The association expressed hope that the year 2015-16 would pass off without any re-imposition of power restrictions in view of the additional capacities that are coming into operation, TECA president, D Balasundaram said in a tatement.
