The Special Investigation Team probing riots cases here has collected samples in order to carry out a DNA match to ascertain the identity of an alleged victim in connection with a case related to last year's communal violence in the area.
The samples of the deceased Shamshad and his son and complainant Dilshad have been sent to the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics at Hyderabad, a source here said yesterday.
Dilshad had lodged an FIR against 22 persons for allegedly killing his father at Bahawdi village in the Phugana police station area on September 8 last year during the riots. Dilshad has alleged that his father was murdered and the body set on fire by the rioters.
SIT has now sought to confirm whether the body which was recovered was of Shamshad's by matching its DNA with his son Dilshad. SIT will proceed with the investigation against the 22 accused after receiving the DNA report, the source added.
