Six held for desecrating religious place in Chhattisgarh

Six people were arrested on Sunday for allegedly vandalising a religious place in Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh, police said.

The incident had taken place in Bahma village under Kansabel police station area on August 9, Jashpur Superintendent of Police Shankar Lal Baghel said.

The accused had allegedly removed flags at Tegri religious place devoted to Lord Hanuman in the village, and installed the symbol of another religion, he said.

The accused are identified as Balantus Toppo, Gulshan Lakra, Nilesh Bakhla, Sikandar, Umesh Bakhla and Telesfor Lakra.

They were booked under sections 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 34 (common intention) of IPC, the SP said.

Further investigation is underway.
