Social audit committees will be constituted at block level across Haryana to ensure transparency in the registration process of construction workers.

The Haryana government has decided to constitute these committees.

These committees will also ensure transparency in disbursement of various benefits to them under different welfare schemes run by the state government, a decision to this effect was taken in the 18thmeeting of the Haryana Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.

The meeting was held here Wednesday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, an official release stated.

At present, there are 8,56,980 building and other construction (BOC) workers registered in the state, and they are being provided benefits under 24 different schemes.

"The social audit committees would make sure that registration of workers engaged in the construction works are done in a fair and transparent manner and only the actual beneficiaries are getting the benefits," Khattar said in the meeting.

He said that eminent persons, members of block samitis and a member appointed by the deputy commissioner concerned would be among the members of the audit committees to be constituted at the block level.

The state government has started a pension scheme for the registered building workers, the release stated.

Under this scheme, monthly pension of Rs 2,500 is given to those registered workers who have regular membership of minimum three years and have completed 60 years of age provided that he or she is not availing the same benefit from any other department, board or corporation.
