Sapkal (70) was conferred the 'Dr Rammanohar Tripathi Lokseva Samman' at an event organised in UP's Rae Bareli district recently.
The Pune-based social activist appealed to the people to come up and help the deprived sections of the society.
"In order to realise the dream of a prosperous India, we must extend our all out support to the needy people of the society and this is deshbhakti (patriotism) in the real sense," Sapkal said at the felicitation.
Sapkal has adopted over 1,000 orphan children over her long career, and has received several awards including the Ahilyabai Holkar Award by Maharashtra government.
The award was instituted in the name of Dr Ram Manohar Tripathi, a Mumbai-based litterateur, journalist and social worker activist.
