Union Minister Radha Mohan Singh today alleged that the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh was "worried" about the interest of its first family rather than the welfare of farmers and farming.
"One family has encroached upon the govermment of Uttar Pradesh...This family is worried about its own welfare...Akhilesh government is like a barrier in extending the benefits of the welfare schemes for farmers launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi," the Union Agriculture Minister said.
Singh was speaking at a programme of students' union of Murli Manohar post graduate college here.
Exhorting people to pull down this "barrier", he asked them to help BJP to come to power in the state in the 2017 Assembly elections to ensure prosperity of the state and development of farming.
Claiming that the country was moving ahead, he said the assessment of the working of a government should not be based on personal benefits.
Citing the works being done in the field of agriculture, he claimed that with the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna (crop insurance scheme), farmers' suicide cases will come down.
Without referring to inflation, he said times have changed and the farmers who used to grow vegetables along with foodgrains are now buying them from markets and advised them to grow vegetables and fruits and take up animal husbandary and organic farming from their betterment.
