Special courts convict mother-son and a restaurateur for power theft

Three persons, including a woman and her son, were convicted for power theft by special courts in the city, a spokesperson of power discom BSES said.

The mother-son duo were convicted by the special court (electricity) at Karkardooma recently. They were found to be involved in power theft at their Shashi Garden (East Delhi) residence in 2011, he said.

"Accused Sanjeev Jain impersonated as a tenant of his mother. The court awarded him fine of over Rs one lakh and simple imprisonment of one year for power theft. For impersonation, the court gave him a prison term of six months and a fine of Rs 10,000," said the BSES spokesperson.

His mother was also convicted and awarded simple imprisonment of over Rs one lakh.

"In both the cases, sentence of imprisonment has been suspended till July 6, subject to furnishing a personal bond by convicts in a sum of Rs 1O,OOO each, and surety in the like amounts."
