In order to prevent crimes in the Delhi Metro, a special police team has been formed to identify suspicious elements roaming on the platforms and trains, a senior officer said.

The special team is formed by the Delhi Metro Rail Police that is part of the Delhi Police and looks after over 150 metro stations.

The team, comprising a head constable and four constables, roams in and around metro stations and keeps an eye on pickpockets and snatchers, he said.

While some members of the team are in civvies, the rest are in uniform.

The team was formed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Delhi Metro) Deepak Gauri.

The team has prevented cases of molestation and also snatchings by nabbing the accused who were found to be roaming in a suspicious manner, the officer claimed.

At Vishwavidyalaya metro station, the team caught hold of two-three men who were loitering around and eyeing girls, the officer said.

Apart from the task of keeping an eye on suspicious elements, the team also has the job of analysing whether there are any security lapses or dark spots near the stations.

"The team informs us if there are any lapses or any areas which require more surveillance. We inform the DMRC in case any loopholes are found," the officer said.
