Special arrangements have been made by Delhi Election Commission to provide better accessibility to the differently-abled voters at polling booths across the city, when the national capital goes to Lok Sabha polls on April 10.
The Commission has also decided to hold officials, who are in-charge of setting up polling stations, accountable for any inconvenience faced by such voters.
"Special arrangements have been made for seamless travel between polling stations and polling booths for differently- abled voters. Officials, who are in charge of setting up polling stations, will be held accountable if they face any problem in this seamless travel," Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Dev told reporters.
For the first time, wheelchairs along with volunteers would be deputed at each polling station to facilitate differently-abled voters.
"About 2,527 wheelchairs have been received from the Department of Disability Affairs, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for deployment in each polling locations along with volunteers with "may I help you" tag," he said.
Dev informed that a software has been developed for voters with special needs where they can tell the Commission about their specific requirements on the polling day.
"So far, a total of 260 voters have responded and got themselves registered on-line through the software about their needs," Dev said, adding that all possible assistance would be provide to them in exercising their franchise on the poll day.
Dev further added that polling officials and police personnel, who would be deployed at the booths, have been given special training on how to conduct themselves and properly behave with voters.
"The detailed training capsule has been made an integral part of polling officials training," he said.
