Sri Lankan pacer Welegedara equals world record in T20 cricket

Sri Lanka's left-arm seamer Chanaka Welegedara today touched the world record for most economical figures in T20 cricket during a domestic tournament match, here today.
Representing Tamil Union Cricket Club, Welegedara had astonishing figures of 4-2-2-4 against Sinhalese Sports Club at the Colombo Cricket Club ground.
In the process, Welegedara equalled South African pacer Chris Morris' spell in Ram Slam T20 Challenge last year.
Electing to bat, Tamil Union scored 142 with Kithuruwan Vithanage scoring 42 with four sixes. Lankan international Chamara Kapugedara (3 for 14) and Binura Fernando (2 for 17) were the most successful bowlers for SSC. In reply, SSC were all out for 97, thereby losing by 45 runs.
When SSC batted, Welegedara struck twice in the fifth over to remove Minod Bhanuka and captain Thilina Kandamby. He then dismissed Sachithra Senanayake in the seventh over, before finding Charith Jayampathi plumb in-front 11th.
