The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has seized morphine powder and arrested two smugglers in this connection in Bihar's East Champaran district near the Indo- Nepal border, a senior SSB official said on Monday.
Acting on a tip off, a SSB team tracked and arrested two Nepalese citizens and seized 193 gm of morphine powder when they crossed over to Indian territory near Beldarwa math on Sunday, SSB Commandant Devanand said.
The two smugglers are residents of Nepals Bara and Parsa district respectively, he said adding that the seized morphine is sold at the rate of Rs 50,000 per gram in the market.
The possession of morphine is punishable act under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, official sources said.
