State wide protests in support of guest teachers in Haryana

A large number of school students along with their parents today held protests across Haryana against the show-cause notice served to over 4,000 guest teachers by the state government here.
The students, including a large number of girls, were joined by various social organisations and locals, came in support of the guest teachers, demanding that the BJP-led government must find a way out to protect their jobs.
The agitators were protesting across multiple districts of the state- in Hisar, Panipat, Kurukshetra, Panipat and Kaithal.
In Kaithal district's Kalayat town, the protesters locked the schools, raising slogans against state's education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma.

Meanwhile, at some places video CDs showing assurances made during the last year's assembly elections by the BJP leaders from the state were played, regarding regularisation of the services of guest teachers if the party comes to power.
Spokesman of the Guest Teachers Association Dharambir Kaushik alleged that the BJP government has gone back on its promise and they would continue to protest till the government finds a solution to regularize services of guest teachers.

"We have also decided to gherao the (Haryana) residences of three Central Ministers from Haryana tomorrow (including Birender Singh, Rao Inderjit Singh and Gen V K Singh)," he said.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Khattar had yesterday said that his government was "quite concerned" about the guest teachers, saying that efforts will be made to make a way out within the framework of law.
While responding to the CM's statement Kaushik said, "on one hand the government tells us that they will give concessions or age relaxations to us in future recruitments, on the other hand guest teachers are being removed saying we are surplus".
Yesterday, Haryana's Elementary Education Department served a 24-hour show-cause notice to over 4,000 guest teachers before dispensing with their services as per the order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Notably, in the recent past too, guest teachers in the state have been holding agitations at several places against the state government.
The notice was served to guest teachers teaching mathematics, social studies and Hindi in government schools, following an undertaking given by the state government on May 11 in the High Court that they will do away with the services of the surplus guest teachers in accordance with the law.
