Statehood agitator Shamsher Singh passes away

Noted statehood agitator of Uttarakhand Shamsher Singh Bisht died at his Almora residence early on Saturday after prolonged illness.

He was 71.

He was suffering from kidney ailment.

Apart from being actively involved in the Uttarakhand statehood movement,he struggled all his life to save the forests and rivers of the state.

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat condoled Bisht's death and said he will always be remembered for his social and environmental concerns.
