AAP leader Bhagwant Mann and Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal have claimed that their statements were "misinterpreted" and they are law abiding citizens after complaints were filed against them in Election Commission for allegedly inciting people.
"Both the leaders, Bhagwant Mann and Harsimrat Kaur Badal, have sent their replies after notices were sent to them," Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) V K Singh said here today.
"In their replies, both the leaders have said that their statements were misinterpreted," the CEO said, adding that they said they are law abiding and peace loving citizens and they support peaceful elections.
The Election Commission had sent notices to both the leaders after complaints were filed against them for their statements.
In its complaint against Mann, an AAP candidate from Jalalabad, Shiromani Akali Dal had alleged that he had openly "incited" people to throw stones at senior SAD leaders and had even admitted it during a television interview.
The complaint alleged that Mann had gone to the extent of urging people not to sow crops on part of their land in order to collect stones which could be used against Akali leaders.
AAP had also lodged a complaint against Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal for her statement.
After a shoe was hurled at Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in Lambi, Harsimrat without naming anyone, had warned, "Inanoon sochan di lod hain ki Jey Kithe Badal sahib ne Akaliyaan nu keh dita ki inadhe khilaf daang chak lo, inanu muhn dikhaun ki yeah zinda rehan de layak nahi rehange (they need to think if Badal Sr tells Akali workers to pick up sticks against them, what to talk of showing face to anyone they will not be able to survive)".
