Kanpur SSP Shailesh Mathur said that since Holi festival and Friday prayers have fallen on the same day, security has been beefed up in the district.
"Police personnel have been asked to remain alert and PAC and RAF personnel are being deployed in sensitive areas. All police station in-charges have been asked to keep a close tab in their respective areas," he said, adding, they have also been asked to check that no liquor shops are open in the area.
Police has asked them to report even a minor incident to the higher officials.
The Kanpur district administration in statement had said that liquor shops have been asked to remain closed on March 5 and 6.
