Students, professors and authorities of medical colleges and universities should come together to improve the sector as it is connected to the common man's health, Union AYUSH ministry Secretary Rajesh Kotecha said Monday.
He was speaking at the 18th convocation ceremony of the Nashik-based Maharashtra University of Health Sciences in the presence of MUHS Vice-Chancellor Dr Dilip Mhaiksar, pro-VC Dr Mohan Khamgaonkar, Dental Council of India president Dr Dibyendu Mazumder and Central Council of Indian Medicine president Jayant Deopujari among others.
A total of 8,466 students were conferred degrees, which included 59 who received gold medals for topping in exams held for various streams.
Sixteen students were also conferred PhDs at the function.
Among the students who stood out was Anuja Tukaram Bandgar from Miraj's Gulabrao Patil Homoeopathic Medical College who received six awards at the function.
Kotecha, in his speech, asked students to establish deep contact with patients for better treatment.
Dental Council of India chief Dr Dibyendu Mazumder lauded the efforts of the MUHS and hoped it would establish its identity at the international level.
