Sukhbir slams Congress for 'shielding' 1984 culprits

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today slammed the Congress for "shielding the culprits" of 1984 anti-Sikh riots and termed as "shameful" the "denial" of justice to the victim families.
Sukhbir launched a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing the party of denying justice to people who were "burnt alive on streets of Delhi" by "shielding Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler."
He said a delegation led by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will meet President Pranab Mukherjee, seeking his direct intervention in the matter besides constitution of an SIT under the supervision of Chief Justice of India and trial of all the cases in a special court.

Sukhbir's remarks come in the backdrop of widespread protests against the acquittal of Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in a 1984 Sikh carnage case.
Sukhbir accused the Congress of not allowing the evidences, that could have led to prosecution of the culprits, to be presented before the court.
"The whole world is shocked with disbelief. Everyone wants to know that if nobody killed those 3000 Sikhs, how did they die? Did aliens from other planet come, killed them and vanished," Sukhbir said at a function here.
He further said the Shiromani Akali Dal is committed to take the fight for justice to its logical conclusion, and will explore every possible mean "to ensure exemplary punishment to Sajjan and Tytler."

When asked about demands for resignation of Union Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal and Law Minister Ashwani Kumar, Sukhbir said "every single minister in this Congress-led UPA Government is involved in one scam or another.
