Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today asked Deputy Commissioners of the state to "perform or perish", saying they must reduce delays in implementation of government schemes, ensure timely delivery of services and check corruption in their districts.
Badal also directed the officials to implement the new mining policy strictly and enjoined them to respond to people's grievances, including web complaints forwarded to them from his office, immediately.
Addressing a meeting of the Deputy Commissioners at the Punjab Bhawan here, Sukhbir directed them to ensure zero corruption in government offices through feedback from people, an official release said.
He said every Deputy Commissioner must forward the feedback, especially on the registries done in their areas, to their Divisional Commissioners and the Chief Secretary on a daily basis.
He also directed the Divisional Commissioners and the Chief Secretary to check the reports submitted by the DCs regularly to stamp out corruption.
Sukhbir said he was getting a number of complaints and grievances through email and web portal.
He told the Deputy Commissioners to take immediate action on all grievances and complaints being forwarded to them, besides giving a feedback regarding their current status to his office.
Issuing instructions to reduce sand prices as per the new mining policy immediately, he said Deputy Commissioners must keep a vigil on sand mining as well as its distribution through Punjab Mandi Board to ensure that sand is provided to customers in a timely manner at reasonable prices.
He asked the Deputy Commissioners to immediately report to Chief Secretary whenever and wherever sand prices crossed the price set by them, the release said.
Reviewing the drug de-addiction programme, he asked the Deputy Commissioners to coordinate with district police incharges to create a congenial atmosphere for de-addicted persons to bring them back to normal life.
He asked the Deputy Commissioners to put their maximum efforts needed to make the drug de-addiction programme in the state a success.
