A woman was arrested from the city on Saturday after over one kilogram of suspected heroin was seized from her possession, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, sleuths of Kolkata Police's Narcotic Cell apprehended the woman from the Rajabazar tram depot area and recovered 10 packets of suspected heroin from her, a senior police officer said.
"She was carrying the drug inside a paper-made packet which was kept in a jute bag," he said.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the woman is a resident of Bishnupur in South 24 Parganas district, he said.
A case has been registered at Amherst Street police station and investigation is going on, the officer added.
