Suspected terrorists attack bus, police station in Gurdaspur

Suspected terrorists wearing Army uniforms opened fire at a bus and attacked a police station in Gurdaspur district early today leaving at least seven persons injured.
The assailants came in a car and they first opened fire at a moving bus which was coming to Punjab side from Jammu and Kashmir on the Amaritsar-Pathankot highway. Four passengers were injured in it, who have been hospitalised, SSP Gurdaspur Gurpreet Singh said.
The attackers, who were wearing Army uniform, then entered the Dinanagar Police Station and also opened fire at the police personnel. Three persons were injured there including Dinanagar SHO Mukhtiar Singh, he said.

The two sides are locked in an heavy exchange of fire, several hours after the incident, he added.
The whole area has been cordoned off and additional forces are being rushed in to Gurdaspur.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh has spoken to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and discussed the situation.

Singh assured Badal that full central assistance will be given to tackle the situation.
Union Home Secretary L C Goyal has spoken to Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini, and is monitoring the situation. Additional forces are being rushed in to Gurdaspur.
Five live bombs have also been recovered from the Pathankot-Gurdaspur railway track, police said.

Army commandos and a Quick Response Team (QRT) have also been called in.
