Swiss Foreign Minister Didier Burkhalter will visit India next week to participate in the meeting of the ASEM grouping, whose member nations account for about 60 per cent of global trade.
Burkhalter would be travelling to New Delhi November 11 to 12 to take part in the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM).
"The purpose of this meeting of foreign ministers is to conduct high-level discussions on issues of common interest to the two continents. This is the first time that Switzerland takes part in this ministerial meeting since becoming a member of ASEM in 2012," the Swiss government said in a release today.
He would participate in discussions on the theme, ASEM 'Bridge to Partnership for Growth and Development'.
According to the release, the Minister would particularly focus on the issues of water management, security challenges, and the fight against terrorism.
ASEM has about 50 members, including India. The member countries account for 60 per cent of the world's current population, almost half of global GDP and 60 per cent of trade worldwide, it said.
