National Award-winning scientist Trebhuwan Singh Raman, who has been awarded a patent to make a device to control a fatal condition of 'air embolism', today called for fresh impetus to medical research in the country and sought private participation in the matter.
The device, called "an improved drip chamber in a fluid infusion set", will help control 'air embolism', a deadly pathological condition caused by a gas bubble, or bubbles, in a vascular system that results in a blood clot or solid mass and ends up blocking a vessel.
"A large amount of air, if delivered, in one time, can stop the functioning of the heart. The fatality of air embolism is difficult to measure," Raman said here.
Calling for fresh initiative in the field of research, he said, "There is no atmosphere of search and research in this country. Government also does not pay any heed... I advice the industrialists to set up surgical industries as lot of money could be made in the field..."
Raman has done seven inventions in the field of medical science and has been granted four patents for his researches.
The list of his inventions include Intralock Intravenous Cannula, an improved oropharyngeal airway, Smoke Impairing Machine and Method and Intravenous Fluids and Blood Infusion Set, etc.
