"If Centre failed to control the situation, it will blow into another Kashmir-like situation in Assam. The first task of the central government should be to curb infiltration of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, which is a threat to natives of Assam, Manipur and Meghalaya," the party general secretary N Ramachander Rao told reporters.

He claimed that around 60 per cent voters in these states are "Bangladeshi infiltrators".

Rao was part of a 12-member BJP delegation led by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister R Ashok that visited the north-eastern states of Assam, Nagaland, Manipur and Meghalaya.

On Assam violence, Rao said, "It was not a communal riot between Hindu and Muslim communities, but a clash between local tribals and Bangladeshi infiltrators".

He alleged that at least 200 families from Myanmar have been illegally migrated to Hyderabad and given shelter in a refugee camp by the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (MIM) party.

"The state government should initiate steps to send back these migrants to Myanmar and close the refugee camp," the BJP leader said.

He welcomed the Supreme Court verdict upholding the death sentence of Ajmal Kasab in the 26/11 Mumbai attack case.
