Against the backdrop of CBSE issuing a showcause notice to Scindia School in Gwalior over the ragging of a student, the school today said it has already expelled three students and was further strengthening its mechanism to avoid repetition of such incidents.
While stating that it has, so far, received no notice from CBSE, the school said it was committed to follow the rules and regulations as issued by CBSE and will respond to the notice if served.
"The school management is in the process of further strengthening its mechanisms pertaining to the anti-ragging squad and anti-ragging committee," it said in a statement.
Underlining the "stringent" anti-ragging policies it has in place, the schools said it had set up a special committee comprising the principal, vice principal and an eminent citizen of Gwalior to enquire into the incident following which the three students were expelled.
The housemaster, and the assistant housemaster found negligent in this matter were debarred from their duties, it said.
A fact-finding committee of the CBSE regional directorate which visited the school on August 24 has concluded that "the student was ragged", officials in the HRD Ministry said.
They, however, said that the committee has not been able to establish whether he attempted suicide.
14-year-old Adarsh Kumar, son of Bihar Cooperative Minister Jai Kumar Singh, has been admitted to a hospital in Delhi.
In its statement, the schools also said it has a disciplinary committee comprising the principal, vice principal, four deans, head of middle school and four senior faculty.
This committee proactively investigates issues pertaining to ragging.
