Teachers' association head held for abusing TMC commissioner

President of Navi Mumbai Shikshak Sanghatana Ashish Savkare was today arrested for allegedly hurling abuses and threatening Thane Municipal Corporation Commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal here after his request to drop him from election duty was declined.
According to the complaint lodged by TMC deputy municipal commissioner Sandeep Malvi, Savkare along with four- five teachers had yesterday visited Jaiswal, who is also the returning officer for Thane district for the February 21 civic body polls, Thane Police PRO Sukhada Narkar said.
In the meeting, Savkare and others had put forth their request before the commissioner to drop their names from the election duty.

After hearing them, Jaiswal considered as genuine the case of two female teachers and gave them relaxation from poll duty.
Irked by his request being declined, Savkare got up from his seat and began to abuse Jaiswal and also rushed towards him to assault him. He was, however, prevented by the security guards, the PRO said.
Following the incident, Malvi filed a complaint with Naupada police last evening and subsequently Savkare was arrested, an official at Naupada police station said.
The accused has been booked under IPC sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and relevant sections of Representation of Peoples Act-1951, the officer said.
