"This would be in the interest of people and give impetus to development works," Ajit said addressing a function at Bhokardan in the district.
He said an ordinance will be brought before the Cabinet to this effect.
In Jalna district, gram panchayats under Jafrabad, Ghanswangi and Badnapur tehsils would be given the status of municipal councils, he said.
The deputy chief minister also informed that the state government has spent Rs 25 crore for establishing an Islamic Research Centre at Mumbra in Thane adjoining Mumbai.
Ajit also performed a ground-breaking ceremony for an upcoming water filter centre and inaugurated a 220 sub KV power station.
District guardian minister Rajesh Tope, minister of state for revenue Suresh Dhas were present among other dignitaries.
