Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao directed the officials Sunday to start the process of formation of two new districts -- Mulugu and Narayanpet -- as per his election promise.

Rao instructed Principal Secretary of the Revenue Department Rajeshwar Tiwari to take the necessary steps after holding a review meeting on Panchayat Raj and the promises made by his party ahead of the recent assembly elections.

With this, the process of the formation of new districts commences, an official release said.

Telangana currently has 31 districts.

The chief minister also told the officials to initiate the process of formation of Korutla revenue division and Ghattuppal mandal in Nalgonda district and Mallampally mandal in Bhupalapally district.

He also suggested that the existing Gundala mandal in Jangoan district should be merged into Yadadri Bhuvangiri district, the release said.

After the announcement of December 7 Assembly elections in the state, the Election Commission had not allowed distribution of sarees.
