Temperatures dip as rains lash north India

Light to moderate monsoon showers continued to lash several parts of north India bringing down temperatures significantly in the region.
Parts of Delhi received light rains as mercury plunged by four degrees even as muggy conditions continued to cause discomfort to people in the national capital.
"There were traces of rainfall, too small to be measured, till 5.30 pm since 8.30 am today," a MeT official said.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 33.4 degrees Celsius, a notch below the normal, while the minimum settled at 27.2 degrees Celsius, a notch above the normal. Yesterday, the maximum was 37.4 degrees Celsius.
However, high levels of humidity in the atmosphere, recorded between 67 and 82 per cent, made Delhiites sweat throughout the day.
The weatherman predicted possibility of more rain and thundershowers in some parts of the city later.
Rains lashed several parts of Punjab and Haryana with mercury dropping by several degrees in both the states.
Union territory Chandigarh recorded a maximum of 32.2 degrees Celsius, a degree below normal, and received rainfall of 7.2 mm, Met department report said.
In Haryana, Bhiwani and Hisar recorded maximums at 31.6 and 29.9 degrees Celsius and received rainfall of 8 mm and 11 mm, respectively.
In Narnaul, mercury settled at 29 degrees Celsius, down five notches below normal, while 9 mm rainfall was recorded. Ambala recorded a high at 31.2 degrees Celsius.
In Punjab, Ludhiana received rainfall of 135.5 mm in the last 24 hours and its maximum settled at 30.4 degrees Celsius while Amritsar got 22.6 mm of rain and its maximum registered 33 degrees Celsius. Patiala had a high of 31.4 degrees Celsius.
Light to moderate rainfall lashed parts of Rajasthan where Kota recorded maximum of 48.9 mm rains followed by Chittorgarh which received 38.5 mm rains till evening since morning today.
Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jaipur, Ajmer and Pilani also recorded 17.8 mm, 4.4 mm, 3.6 mm, 1.2 mm and 1.1 mm rainfall respectively, according to a Met report.
Till morning today since yesterday, isolated areas in Kota, Ajmer, Bikaner and Udaipur divisions received heavy rains while other areas recorded light to moderate showers.
