Shinde suffered a massive heart attack in the early hours of today and passed away, District Information Officer Aniruddha Ashtaputre told the media persons.
He was 48.
The officer is survived by wife, a son and a daughter Ashtaputre said.
Shinde, who started his career as Deputy Collector at Nashik, was recently transferred to Thane where he was posted as Additional Collector.
He also worked as OSD (Officer on Special Duty) to former Education Minister Rajendra Darda.
Thane Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde and Collector Mahendra Kalyankar, among others, condoled Shinde's death.
