'The Simpsons' writer Kevin Curran dies at 59

Kevin Curran, best known for writing the popular animated sitcom "The Simpsons", has passed away. He was 59.
The six-time Emmy-winning writer died at his home here after a long illness, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Curran worked on "The Simpsons" in 1998 as a consulting producer and stayed with the show till 2015, sharing three Emmys for outstanding animated program.
In addition, Curran won three consecutive Emmys from 1985-87 as part of the writing team on "Late Night With David Letterman".
In the 1990s, he worked on Fox's "Married With Children" and was also an executive producer of the WB Network's "Unhappily Ever After".
Curran's other TV credits included the short-lived ABC comedy "The Good Life".
"Kevin Curran was a sweet and brilliant man, who said many hilarious things, some unprintable, others which will live forever in a children's cartoon," said "The Simpsons" showrunner Al Jean.
Jean also tweeted the news, calling Curran a "brilliantly funny and true friend".
"@TheSimpsons We are sad at the passing of Kevin Curran brilliantly funny and true friend," he wrote.
Curran is survived by a son and a daughter that he had with his former partner, author Helen Fielding.
