With the arrest of three men and recovery of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) of the face value of Rs four lakh, the Special Cell of Delhi Police today claimed to have busted an alleged interstate gang involved in the illegal trade.
According to police, Zaheer Hasan (42) a resident of Muzaffar Nagar, UP, Tuffail Waris Khan (39), a resident of Darbhanga, Bihar and Sarfaraz (22) were arrested on April 26 following a tip off. FICN to the tune of Rs four lakh in the denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes were recovered from them.
"On April 26, secret information was received that some suspected peddlers of FICN belonging to an interstate gang will come at Gate No. 4, Millennium Park, Ring Road, New Delhi for transaction of FICN," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.
Accordingly, a trap was laid and at about 8.00 PM, it was seen that one person (later identified as Zaheer Hasan) arrived there on a motorcycle. Soon thereafter, two more persons (later identified as Tuffail Waris Khan and Sarfaraz) also reached the spot, police said.
"While the supplier and the receivers were in the midst of transaction, our team acted swiftly and apprehended all three of them. From their possession, Rs four lakh worth FICN were recovered. A case under the relevant sections of law has been registered at Special Cell police station in this regard," said Yadav.
During interrogation, Tuffail Waris Khan and Sarfaraz allegedly revealed that the FICN being peddled by them were brought by them from Kolkata, West Bengal and they had come to Delhi for delivering the same to Zaheer who is involved in further circulation of FICN in Delhi NCR and other places in India, police said.
