"While my movie marks the comeback of Soumitra Chatterjee as a protagonist, the cast has three strong female leads. Women had been in dominant roles in all my feature films," the national award winner Angshumaner Chhobi director told PTI here.
"Nina Chakraborty plays the petrol pump employee, a fully etched out character who is an important cog in the film, its twists and turns. She is the first such portrayal in Indian movies and not a Martian as there are girls in city pumps," the young, soft-spoken film maker said.
The characters will in turn reach at the para park, the 'listening chamber of life' of retired government employee Soumitra Chatterjee, who is the chronicler and conscience-keeper.
"The film is not women-centric in the strict sense but the three female characters - Radhika Apte as Sananada and Sohini Sarkar as Ahana besides Nina - are the spearheads of Rupkatha Noy. You can variously dub it as Soumitra Chatterjee's comeback project after several years in a unusual role of the common man-turned motivator, as a work bordering on fantasy and neo-realism and again as a tale of 'Tinkanya' with different personalities and past," the Takhon Teish maker said.
"I still recall the day when Mr Soumitra Chatterjee had asked me if I liked a shot of his. I play a character troubled by past who comes in contact with the Man at the park. We shared three shots and it was an experience for sure I reiterate," Radhika recalled.
The film, produced by Friends Communication, will be released on September 6.
