The highest temperature in Odisha was recorded at 44 degrees Celsius in Sonepur followed by Sundergarh (41), Talcher (40.8) and Bhawanipatna (40.5), a MeT official said.
The sunstroke toll in the eastern state mounted to 13 with the three fresh cases being confirmed in Angul and Balasore districts, according to special relief commissioner's office in Bhubaneswar.
Several other parts of the country also continued to reel under heat wave conditions with Barmer sizzling at 45.4 degrees Celsius.
In the national capital, the maximum temperature stood at 39.9 degrees Celsius while humidity in the air oscillated between 18 per cent and 57 per cent.
Major parts of Uttar Pradesh also experienced scorching heat with Banda recording as the hottest place with a maximum temperature of 45.2 degrees Celsius.
In Jharkhand, Dumka recorded the hottest at 44 degrees Celsius followed by Chaibasa at 43.9 degrees Celsius. Capital Ranchi posted 40.2 degrees Celsius and experience a little thundershower while Jamshedpur recorded 42.4 degrees Celsius.
In West Bengal, temperature in Kolkata stood at 40.4 degrees Celsius.
Hisar in Haryana experienced sweltering heat at 43 degrees Celsius while mercury in Narnaul stood at at 41.5 degrees Celsius.
In Punjab, Amritsar had a hot day at 41.5 degrees Celsius, up four notches. Ludhiana's maximum was recorded at 41.4 degrees Celsius while Patiala braved the sun at 40.6 degrees Celsius. Capital Chandigarh residents sweated it out at 39.6 deg Celsius.
Several parts of southern India also faced heat wave condition with Hyderabad registering 42 degrees Celsius, Palakkad in Kerala posting 41.6 degrees Celsius while the mercury in capital Trivandrum stood at 35.4 degrees Celsius.
districts. Mumbai city recorded 10.42 mm of rainfall, while the eastern and western suburbs recorded 4.88 mm and 12.29 mm rainfall overnight.
Heavy rainfall lashed parts of Rajasthan since yesterday. Dabok, Jodhpur and Jaipur received 9.4 mm, 7.4mm and 3.6 mm rains respectively today, the MeT department said here.
In Punjab and Haryana, incessant rains continued to lash a few places, with maximum temperatures today hovering below normal limits in the two states.
Uttar Pradesh received light to moderate rains today even as waters of major rivers Sharda, Ghaghra and Rapti are flowing at danger levels or above it at different points in the state.
