Three people, including two women, were killed on Friday after a car hit them on National Highway-31 in Assam's Baksa district, a police officer said.

The vehicle reportedly came from behind and ran over the three pedestrians, who were on way to a nearby paddy field, he said.

The deceased, all in their 30s, hailed from Madhopur area of Baksa district in Lower Assam.

Local people informed the police about the accident, following which a search team was constituted to nab the driver of the vehicle, who fled the spot, the officer added.
