Three naxals, including a couple, carrying cash reward of Rs 1-2 lakh on each of them surrendered in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh today, police said.
"All the three are active members of Military Platoon of rebels and were carrying reward, ranging from Rs 1-2 lakh on each of them, announced by the state government," Kanker SP Rajendra Dash told PTI/Bhasha over phone.
Among the trio, Somesh (30) has served as 'commander' of the platoon, while Batti (23) has worked in her capacity as a member and her husband Dileep (25) as the second commander, he said.
"All of them are associated with the unit V of the platoon which has been mainly active in Kanker and Narayanpur--in Chhattisgarh, and in Gadchiroli district of neighbouring Maharashtra," Dash said.
The trio had played an active role in the 2010 encounter at Bhuski village in Narayanpur district, in which three BSF jawans and two personnel of state police were killed. "Besides this encounter, they had also involved in a number of anti-government activities," Dash said.
Police said that Somesh was an expert in making landmine and had also worked as an active member of the Radical Students Organisation of CPI (Maoists).
The naxals turned themselves in before senior police officials, namely BSF IG S S Chahar, Bastar IG SRP Kalluri and the Kanker SP.
