Bhawanipatna was the hottest with the maximum temperature at 42.5 degrees Celsius, followed by Titlagarh at 42 degrees Celsius, MeT office sources, said adding at least 10 places across the western region recorded temperature above 40 degrees Celsius.
The other places which sizzled in the heat were Bolangir (41.5), Sonepur, Sambalpur and Hirakud (41.1 each), Jharsuguda (41) and Sundergarh (40).
Bhubaneswar recorded a high of 39.8 degrees Celsius with relative humidity at 87 per cent. It, however, turned cool in the afternoon after the thundersquall.
The IMD has predicted thunderquall in some places over over Odisha for the next five days.
