A Tihar inmate allegedly attempted suicide and later tried to escape through the window in the second floor ward of the hospital where he was rushed to, and after a brief chase was nabbed by the police.
The inmate was identified as Ashwini, who was imprisoned in connection with several snatching and theft cases.
On Saturday, he had allegedly swallowed a piece of shattered glass, suspectedly trying to kill himself, for which he had to be rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in west Delhi, said police.
He was admitted in a ward on the second floor of the hospital and two police constable were deployed there as security.
When the officials went out for a minute or two to talk to a doctor, Ashwini, who was apparently unconstitutional, took a chance and exited through the window.
He did not land directly but rather chose a skillful way, using the pipes and other surfaces on the building.
But he hurt his foot in the last jump, for which he couldn't run properly, said police.
By the time he landed, many people had noticed him and guards at the hospital raised an alarm.
He could hardly step out of the peripheral boundary of the hospital premises before he was held again, police added.
